Not the lightest poles but they are definitely the BEST Review by Denvy Lo
How do you Rate this Product I used the Raidlight foldable poles in the Gobi race and while they were light and easy to use, these Black Diamond Z-poles take the prize for being BOTH sturdy and lightweight.
Some competitors' Raidlight poles were completely destroyed after the Gobi March as the poles aren't strong enough to be weight-bearing. Mine held up ok but I did not put too much weight on them. I got the Black Diamond a few months ago and am constantly impressed with how "strong" they feel.
It is easy to use - a quick pull on the handle and a "click"-sound gets you going straight away. When I don't need to use the poles, I fold them quickly and hold one in each hand. As they are so light I hardly notice them.
I recently used them for a 50km night race over some of Hong Kong's most brutal peaks (7000+ feet in elevation gain) and they held up really well. I put a lot of weight on them and they never once complained! The best part of it is that I could assemble it quickly without losing my stride, especially compared to my team-mate who used the conventional 'twist-and-lock' poles.
If you are looking for a sturdy set of poles which are lightweight and easy to use, look no further. I'm confident they will withstand a tough multi-day trek but they are perfectly suited for a mountain race. (Posted on 17/10/2011) -
Very light- very sturdy Review by Aatami
How do you Rate this Product I took these poles to the Gobi as a "just in case" pair. Of course I used them widely during the event, in the dunes, riverbeds and on steep descents.
They are considerably sturdier than the raidlight poles (although slightly heavier at 270g vs 240g). Their quick lock system has proved efficient and reliable.
For serious dune work, you would probably need to put a bigger basket on. However for the 10km of "righteous" dunes we had this year together with attendant dunnettes and sundry crusty saltflats, they worked very well.
If you are not sure you will need poles and want a lightweight "just in case" pair, these are a strong contender. (Posted on 06/07/2011)
